About our Order Form; PLEASE READ!!
Please fill out one form per batch/bag to be processed. If multiple bags are to be processed together, we still need a form in each bag for identification purposses. You only need to fill out the whole top portion on one form. The other forms only need the date, your name and what you want done with the fiber. You can use address labels as well. Please put your fiber in clear plastic bags. No feed bags, black trash bags, burlap or anything we can't see through.
Are you in a rush? We will move your order to the front of the queue for a 25% surcharge.

We can process huycaya alpaca on request but we require vlending with merino to create a 50/50 blend of the alpaca and the merino. Suri alpaca, angora, mohair, gotland or other exotics require a minimum of 50% wool added. In addition there will be a $6.50 per pound surcharge for the procsssing of these or any exotic fibers. This includes, extra fine wool and very slippery wool such as BFL or other long wools. The reason is alpaca and other exotic fibers take about twice as long to process as other fibers, even with at least 50% wool added.
Additionally, if your wool will not hold together well by itself it will also need to be blended with merino with the percentage being determined on a cse by case basis. The other fibers listed seldom if ever run well by themselves. We can supply you with wool for blending if you do not have a source of wool. Blending fiber is typically either white 21 micron merino at $24.00/lb or color matched 21 micron merino at $45.00/lb.
Note: Fiber processing begins with skirting the fiber to remove non fiber materials such as poop, vegetation, sticks, or other foregin material. The fiber is then picked if appropriate to open it prior to scouring.
If picking is not appropriate than hand opening is performed. After picking or hand opening the fiber is then scoured to remove dirt and grease. The fiber is dried and conditioned and then put into the card. What comes out of the card is called slub and it looks like roving but has not yet been combed.
If your fiber will not hold together coming out of the card then it will be returned to you as opened fiber out of the card regardless of what you have request the mill to produce.
If your fiber was able to be turned into slub from the card then the next step in the process is to pin draft the fiber. If this is able to be successfuly completed and you have ordered roving then the process is finished after this step. If your have ordered roving or yarn and the slub will not hold together for pin drafting then it will be returned to you as slub from the card.
If you have ordered yarn and the fiber was able to be successfully pin drafted then it will be moved to the spinner for spinning. As long as the fiber will dfaft properly at the spinner then it will be spun into yarn, plyed, and then skeined unless cones have been requested. If the roving will not draft correctly then your fiber will be returned to you as roving.
At each step in the process the fiber will only move forward if it will correctly process. At any point the fiber will not process correctly we will stop and notify you of that fact and return your fiber to you at that point. You are responsible for all charges for whatever amount of work we are able to complete.
Price Example:
2019 pricing 10 pounds raw wool to be spun into 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Assume a 70% yield: 10 X $6.50 = $65.50 for scouring the raw wool 7 X $35 = $245 for spinning the wool into 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Total price $300.50 7 pounds finished yarn at 1500 yards per pound = 52.5 200 yard skeins. Price per skein = $310.5/52.5 = $5.91 per skein |
2021 pricing 10 pounds raw wool to be spun into 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Assume a 70% yield: 10 X $7.50 = $75.00 for scouring the raw wool 7 X $38 = $266 for spinning the wool into 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Total price $341 7 pounds finished yarn at 1500 yards per pound = 52.5 200 yard skeins. Price per skein = $341/52.5 = $6.49 per skein |
Volume discounts:
Single batch orders for roving over 50 pounds to be run together will receive a discount of 10% on the carding and pin-drafting charges.
Payment
Payment is due when processing is complete. We accept cash, checks, VISA, Master Card, Discover, and American Express. Note: We will not start processing your fiber without a credit card number on file or other payment arrangements being made. In addition orders paid for with a card will be charged an additional 3.5%.
Fiber Preparation
On shearing day, the belly, leg, face, and head wool are usually separated and discarded as they’re shorn by the shearer or shepherd. Lay the fleece out for examination with the shorn side down. Remove as much vegetable matter as possible. Shake the table to allow any second cuts to fall out. Remove any heavily vegetative fiber. These aras are most likely in the sections at the base of the neck and sometimes along the spine. Remove all manure tags which are wool coated with manure.
Remove britch wool which is the coarse hair fiber from the tail end and lower thigh. Remove any belly wool as it will be very dirty, short, and matted. Remove the head wool which is typically coarse and could contain chaff and vegetable matter. Remove all weathered wool.
Our equipment does an excellent job in removing vegetable matter from the fiber but it will never get all of it out. The bottom line is that the less vegetable matter there is in your fiber the less there will be in your finished product.
Skirting
Skirting of the fiber is the customers responsibility. If aditional skirting of fleeces is required our charge for that service is $75.00 per hour with a $37.50 minimum.
